Close J, Ellis M, Hooper R, Glucksman E, Jackson S, Swift C. Prevention of falls in the elderly trial (PROFET): a randomized controlled trial. Lancet. 1999;353(9147):93-7.

The prevention of falls in the elderly trial (PROFET) was a randomized controlled trial focused on evaluating an accident and emergency department fall prevention intervention. Patients in the intervention group received a detailed medical and occupational-therapy assessment with referral to relevant services if indicated. Control patient received standard services. Results suggest that the intervention could decrease the risk of further falls and limit functional impairment in a high-risk population.
